You probably know how passionate I am about the outdoors, especially hiking. Adventuring is a huge part of my life and I get asked all the time how to prepare for all areas of it. If one of your goals for 2020 is to get outside more, I wrote this for you! It will improve your ability to handle hiking fatigue while building the necessary strength, power, and endurance needed to complete full or multi day hikes while wearing a day pack. All while teaching you the basics to properly navigate the great outdoors safely and responsibly.

Most people find it surprising to hear that getting better at hiking outdoors requires a fair amount of preparing. The main reason outdoor sport requires preparing indoors is due to making the best use of time. If you are like myself and not exactly in a position to go outside and hike with a pack on daily, you have to find and create ways to mimic that to the best of your ability. The gym really does have a place in the outdoor recreation, oddly enough.

But the gym isn't everything here, in fact far from it. Unlike strength sports, you really only need to be in the gym for 40-60 minutes, 3-4 days a week. When you are not in the gym, you will be celebrating your body's ability to move in various ways.

Vol One is a novice program. If you think you currently can't hike 10 miles in one day, this is a great starting point to build your hiking base for years to come. It is complete with multiple sections about both indoor and outdoors training, as well as 12 weeks of workouts.
